How to load digital wallets from credit cards in Nepal?

Digital wallets are becoming increasingly popular in Nepal. While most digital wallets advertise cash backs when users link their bank accounts, a large proportion of users load digital wallets using credit cards.

While filling wallets from bank accounts is free, there may be situations when you need to load it using a credit card. When you don’t have any bank balance or cash on hand, purchasing with credit cards might be difficult in Nepal, where POS terminals are few.

Note: Some restrictions apply when withdrawing cash using credit cards. When withdrawing money from ATM machines using credit cards, one must pay a fee of up to 2.75%.

Which cards should be used to load funds in digital wallets?

How to load digital wallets from credit cards in Nepal?

Many digital wallets provide a variety of load options, giving you the flexibility to pick how you want to pay. Credit cards may load funds into digital wallets such as eSewa, Khalti, IME Pay, Prabhu Pay, MyPay, PayWell, Moru, and others.

Follow a few simple steps to fill your digital wallets with credit cards. For example, this is the procedure for filling your eSewa wallet:

  1. Open your “eSewa app” or login to www.esewa.com.np
  2. Now Click on Load Fund or Load Money.
  3. Please select Load via Card.
  4. Now Select your Card Type. [Domestic Card or International Card]
  5. If you have a Visa credit card or any typical credit card in Nepal, you can choose the Domestic card. If you have a Master Card or an American Express card, choose the International card option.
  6. Enter the Load Amount, choose the Purpose, and then click Proceed.
  7. Confirm the e-Sewa ID and Amount in the “Description” and “Amount” boxes. Please keep in mind that the amount is stated in Nepalese Paisa. (For example, if you try to load Rs. 100, the “Amount” field displays 100.00 NPR.)
  8. Fill in your card information, including the Card Number, Expiry Date, Card Holder’s Name, CVV, and E-mail address, and then click OK.
  9. Enter the OTP that was sent to you in your message.
  10. Congratulations, you have successfully loaded your eSewa wallet using your Credit/Debit Cards.
Note: The transactions will be subject to a service fee of 1.5% - 3%(of the total load amount). Users will also be able to load Rs. 25,000 for each transaction, Rs. 50,000 per day, and Rs. 50,000 per month utilizing a Card.
